CAN Safety Plan

Latest Update

November 20, 2020

In accordance with new provincial health recommendations, we are resuming all Lower Mainland indoor programs with enhanced safety protocols on Thursday, November 26.

That said, our team has developed updated Safety Plans for both in-person programs and family experiences. These new protocols ensure that our programs are either in line with, or exceed, provincial health recommendations.

Please note that while the suspension of indoor programs affected only the Lower Mainland, our new Safety Plan applies to ALL in-person programs across BC.

  • Updated Safety Plan: In-Person Programs
    • Curriculum updates: New station-based & hands-free activities to allow for increased physical distancing and decreased touch points.
    • Reduced participants numbers, increased outdoor activities for youth & adult programs and virtual opportunities for all age groups this Winter 2021.
    • Mandatory masks in common indoor spaces, no spectators allowed and new policies for physically-distanced support.
  • Updated Safety Plan: Family Experiences
    • CAN Family Experiences will continue as scheduled. This decision remains in alignment with provincial health recommendations as long as families remain within their household bubbles.
    • During this time of physical distancing, we must reiterate the need to eliminate interactions with other households at CAN Family Experiences.

The Winter 2021 Program Guide has also been released, outlining all new safety protocols as well.

As the health situation in BC continues to rapidly evolve, we encourage members to be especially mindful during this time and to use sound judgement to ensure the safety of the CAN community – and the larger community we are a part of.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email info@canucksautism.ca.

Safety Protocols for COVID-19: What to Expect

All families must read the full document and agree to the protocols before their enrollment is confirmed in any CAN Family Experience.

CAN Restart Plan

As per provincial health orders, all indoor programs in the Lower Mainland are currently suspended. Effective Saturday, November 7 at 10pm to Monday, November 23 at 12pm.

As expected, our upcoming year will look much different due to the safety, financial and logistical challenges created by COVID-19.

As we approach Phase 3 of the CAN Restart Plan in Fall 2020,

  • Up to 25% of in-person programs will be re-introduced each season
  • Programs being re-introduced will be dependent on:
    • Ongoing Health Orders: Will it be safe?
    • Facility Availability: Are community centres open and available?
    • Funding: Do we have the necessary financial support?
    • Staffing: Do we have the necessary personnel?
    • Physical Distancing: Programs requiring close physical contact (ie swim) will be put on hold until they can be safely reintroduced
